The True Value of Conferences E-mail

There have been a few conferences here in the U.S. pertaining to Microsoft SharePoint this year. Most notably the SharePoint Conference 2006 was held in May (see the keynote by Bill Gates and slide decks ) , SharePoint Connections was held in April in Orlando, Florida and of course, the all out TechEd 2006 in Boston, Mass was held in June. There are a few more coming up that I am aware of; The SharePoint Advisor Summit , August 27-31, Phoeniz, Arizona, the Fall SharePoint Connections 2006, November 6-9, Las Vegas, Nevada and  SharePoint Information Worker Conference 2007 , January 31 - February 2, 2007 Orlando, Florida.

So what's the point of all of these conferences? ...

To Cert or Not To Cert? E-mail

What certifications, if any, should a SharePoint professional obtain?  This question has been posted numerous times in every forum or Sharepoint blog that I've visited. The answers that have been posted varies.  Have a look through the job listings in the major metropolitan areas and you might find that the job requisition includes some certification as a "nice to have", while other times it is a hard and fast "must have" requirement.

 

I am a SharePoint professional and I can tell you from my first-hand experience that having my MCSD, MCSD.NET and MCAD got my foot in the door on many interviews. Simple as that. I've been told this by recruiters as well as the propesctive employers. Now, what I did after I got my foot in the door is up to me and my experience. Let's look at the some options.
